THREE of Southend’s beaches have gained Blue Flag status.
East Beach in Shoebury, Shoebury Common Beach and Three Shells Beach all made the grade for water quality, cleanliness, clean water, good facilities and good access.
However Jubilee Beach missed out after gaining the status last year.
Three Shells Beach didn’t receive the flag in 2008 due to heavy rains affecting water quality readings.
Deputy council leader John Lamb, the councillor responsible for tourism, said: “I’m very pleased.
“We’re bringing in other controls to keep the beaches clean, like new litter bins with recycling facilities.
“Dogs are already banned on some beaches and keeping dogs off more of them will also help water quality.
“We would love to get Blue Flags on every beach.”
