College in search for old bangers

CAR and van owners are being encouraged to support a trainee mechanics course, by donating old bangers.

Crown College’s new training centre, in Sutton Road, Southend, offers a qualification in motor vehicle studies.

But, to fulfill the practical elements of the course, students need old vehicles to work on.

James Duddridge, MP for Rochford and Southend East, is supporting the course and appealing for people to donate old cars, vans and motorcycles.

Mr Duddridge, who is visiting the college later this month, said: “This excellent vocational training course will give young people a great opportunity to learn the skills and knowledge to launch a career in the motor industry.

“I would urge local people and businesses who have old vehicles they do not need to donate them.

“Our future mechanics have to get practical experience to complete their course and progress with their careers.”

Elaine Wardrop, business development manager for the college, said: “Crown College has developed the qualification in response to demand from local schools and young people.

“The opening of our seventh training centre will build on Crown’s existing provision, delivering new opportunities for the young people of south east Essex.”

If you can donate a vehicle, contact Elaine on 01702 341169.

Perhaps Duddie you could dig deep into your pocket (or should I say the taxpayers pocket) and buy up a few old bangers and donate them yourself?

You've ticked off most of your constituents by dipping your pudgey paws in the till.

Perhaps making a good gesture out of your pocket might lead some credence to what is a pretty limited time left for you as an MP.

Arriva might help. Lots of their "Old Banger" Buses must be overdue for retirement. That would be a nice gesture too.

When the police seize a vehicle and send it for scrap, why not send it to this college to be fixed up instead. Simple common sense, It'll never catch on.

I hardly remember James Duddridge ever doing anything to get in the local paper before the expenses scandral - since then hes campaigned against the flower ban and campaigned for people to donate their old bangers to a college.

While not wishing to denigrate Crown College, who could have issued their own press release instead, I find myself once again telling James to DO SOMETHING USEFUL!!!!
