A WESTCLIFF schoolgirl is celebrating after winning a public speaking competition judged by MP David Amess.
Sasha Rimington Hicks beat five other 14-year-old classmates at St Hilda’s School in a closely-fought competition.
Her thought-provoking 60 seconds on the philosophy for a happy life and her take on children’s rights won over the Southend West MP.
Headmistress Susan O’Riordan also addressed the open day audience of parents, guests and pupils. She said: “I was impressed with the clarity of the speeches. The competition really boosted their confidence.
“Sasha won a new hardback and CD of the Greatest Speeches of the 20th century.”
