A ROAD which closed after a water main burst has now reopened.
On Tuesday afternoon, North Shoebury Road, in Shoebury, was closed in both directions because the burst pipe ripped up tarmac and flooded the road.
The closure caused two days of traffic chaos, with tailbacks as far as Maplin Way as drivers were diverted from the main road.
Crews from Essex and Suffolk Water worked to fix the damage through the night and put down a new surface.
It reopened this morning at 6am.
Sarah Pinkerton, spokeswoman for Essex and Suffolk Water, said: “When the water main burst, it caused significant damage to both lanes. We worked through the night on Tuesday to get it fixed.
“We appreciate the inconvenience caused, and thank motorists for their patience. It’s been quite a big job.
“The most likely cause we think is the long dry spell which was followed by torrential rain. This causes the ground to expand and contract.”
