MP Angela Smith will be giving a presentation during a free event aimed at helping community organisations survive the recession.

The MP for Basildon and East Thurrock is speaking at the conference, which has been organised by the Veolia ES Cleanaway Pitsea Marshes Trust, tomorrow.

Under discussion will be topics such as how to develop sustainable capital projects; how to manage sports activities; and bringing environmental projects to life.

Doug Benjafield, chair of the trust said: “The trust is very aware local community groups may have problems with finding support from previously reliable sources.

“We are delighted Angela Smith is able to join us for what will be an important opportunity for us to help charities and voluntary organisations run their projects more effectively and efficiently in the current economic climate.”

The trust has funded more than 250 community projects over the past 11 years, handing out grants worth in excess of £12million.
