Burglaries halved in Leigh

BURGLARIES have almost halved in Leigh following the launch of an operation to tackle the problem.

Operation Littlebrook was launched in late January following a spike in burglary offences across the Leigh area since the start of the year.

The police response has involved officers targeting known hotspot areas in overt and covert policing operations, aimed at reducing offences, catching suspects and reassuring the public.

It has involved officers based from Leigh as well as assistance from those working under Operation Hornet - Essex Police’s countywide response to home burglaries.

In the 12 day period from the launch of Operation Littlebrook on Monday January 25 until Friday, February 5, there were 11 burglaries in the Leigh area. This compares to 21 reported within the 12 days prior to the operation, a reduction of 47 per cent.

General patrols have been carried out in residential areas across Leigh and officers seek to identify vulnerable people, premises and property.

Since the start of Operation Littlebrook 171 properties have been attended by Neighbourhood Specialist Officers (NSOs) and PCSOs, with advice being given to the residents on how to make their home more secure.

Why when burglaries are flourishing do we not hear that there is a serious problem so locals can be prepared.

Why do we only hear stupid comments like 'burglaries have been halved' knowing that covers a short two week period!!

Next week they could easily double, will we be warned then.

Didn't the Echo have the same report about Castle Point yesterday and then a bit later there was an article about a burglary crime wave????

http://maps.police.u
k/view/essex/
is the website where you can view crime statistics for YOUR area. The page for Leigh says: "The average number of burglaries in this area has increased from 5.3 to 7.3 (37.5%)".
The actual figures for the number of burglaries are:
2008
Oct 4
Nov 6
Dec 6
2009
Oct 11
Nov 5
Dec 6
.
In the article on EXACTLY THE SAME TOPIC about burglaries in Castle Point, the comparison was made between Jan 2009 and Jan 2008 to tell us how burglaries in that area were dropping. Here we are given a comparison of 12 days before and after 25th January 2009. SELECTIVE OR WHAT?
I suppose some would call it spin. Others, less generous, might call it a dubious use of statistics. I would go further and call this a BLATANT ATTEMPT TO MISLEAD THE PUBLIC.

Halved in Leigh? Try Canvey Island burglary up over every single district 2008 over 2009 and one district over 440%.
We will pay for it with higher insurance premiums.
We can rest assured though we have a mobile police station on Thorney Bay and can look forward to another 600 mobile homes there.
We don't have to worry no one lives their permanently, least not according to our Council to date. It is licenced as a recreational site (holiday camp).
Whilst the rest of Britain think prisons look like a holiday camp we on Canvey have a holiday camp that looks like a prison. Just to embellish it the site owners want to put a fence all round. That should make doubly sure it looks like a prison.
DO TAX PAYING, LAW ABIDING RESIDENTS CONCERNS EVER GET CONSIDERED?
Attend the next Neighbourhood Meeting at Leighbeck Junior School tomorrow 10th February at 7.15PM to hear the answer for yourself.

Two things:

1. Funny how the Police harp on about the "crime reported" figures but never publish their "crimes solved" figures - which are abyssmal and declining year on year.

2. Bulgary "reported" may have halved but how many now don't bother contacting the Police because they know that nothing will happen and if on the very rare occasion they happen to catch the perpetrator they will only give him a caution.

Welcome to Labour's Britain - spin is far more important than substance and it's easier to try and kid the population than actually make things better for them.
