Broken bin lorry blocks Rayleigh High Street

3:07pm Wednesday 10th March 2010

RUSH hour traffic ground to a halt in Rayleigh High Street this morning when a dustcart broke down.

The breakdown occurred shortly after 8am and a breakdown lorry was called to recover the vehicle.

When it arrived it delayed all traffic for an hour as it needed to block the road for an hour while recovering the dustcart.

Minibus driver Peter Lewsey from Benfleet said: "It was ridiculous. Everyone was stuck and buses were tailing back with nowhere to go.

"One young girl who had an appointment was in tears."
