PUB trade managers Paul Hatton and Brian McKay will forget about their day jobs this May when they face each other in the ring for a charity boxing match.
Mr McKay, 50, who runs the East Anglian Pub Group, owner of the Peter Boat in Leigh, is taking on Mr Hatton, 39, general manager at the Ivory Rooms, Billericay, to raise funds for Southend RNLI and the Hamelin Trust, a charity supporting people with learning disabilities. They pair will fight three, two-minute rounds in a marquee at Warner’s Bridge, Southend, on May 1.
On paper, it appears an even match. Mr McKay is 5ft 10ins tall, and weighs 12st. His opponent is an inch shorter and the same weight.
Mr McKay, a married father-of-three from Great Wakering, said: “My family will get a bit nervous the closer it gets, but they’ve got faith in their old man.”
