Drivers rescue dog in distress on A127

DRIVERS came to the rescue of a dog in distress after he was run over on the A127.

Tommy, a nine-year-old boxer, had a day out to forget when he got lost and was then hit by a car in Basildon.

Fortunately, two drivers saw the animal and managed to pull him from the London-bound track of the A127, near the Mayflower Tesco store.

Tommy had gone missing while being taken for a walk in Gloucester Park, Basildon, on Wednesday at 6.30pm with owners Keily and Terry Brien.

An hour later, Tommy found his way on to the A127 and was hit by a car, but was saved when John Layzell and another driver came to the rescue.

Is Tommy a deaf, dumb and blind dog?

Seriously I hope he's not feeling gruff after his ordeal and he makes full recovery.

Well done to the rescuers. However there is a reason why dog leads exist, and if he had been attached to one I doubt he would have got lost. This could have easily been a very nasty and upsetting accident, thankfully it wasn't. Boxers are also the most stupid dogs in the world so running off and getting lost is to be expected. Hope he makes a full recovery.

Tommy was on a lead but some idiot staff owner in Gloucester Park didn't have their dog on a lead and he ran at Tommy. In the confusion that followed Tommy got away. He is in doggie hospital for a few days and has had an operation on his leg. Thank you to his rescuers.
