DRIVERS came to the rescue of a dog in distress after he was run over on the A127.
Tommy, a nine-year-old boxer, had a day out to forget when he got lost and was then hit by a car in Basildon.
Fortunately, two drivers saw the animal and managed to pull him from the London-bound track of the A127, near the Mayflower Tesco store.
Tommy had gone missing while being taken for a walk in Gloucester Park, Basildon, on Wednesday at 6.30pm with owners Keily and Terry Brien.
An hour later, Tommy found his way on to the A127 and was hit by a car, but was saved when John Layzell and another driver came to the rescue.
