Polish students to visit Southend

YOUNGSTERS from Southend’s twin town in Poland will be visiting the borough to discover its highlights first hand.

A group of students from the Polish town of Sopot are preparing for their visit to the town next week.

The guests, all secondary school pupils, are being hosted during their stay by the families of members of Southend Boys’ and Girls’ Choirs.

The Polish party will arrive in England on Monday and start their trip with a sightseeing excursion to Cam-bridge.

On Tuesday morning, they will have coffee and cakes with Southend mayor, Brian Smith, at the Park Inn Palace Hotel, on the seafront.

The visitors will then go on to enjoy some of Southend’s attractions, such as the town’s world-famous pier and the Sea Life Adventure centre.

On Wednesday, they will spend the morning at St Bernard’s High School, in Westcliff, and in the afternoon the party will visit the Beecroft Art Gallery, Southend Museum and the Planetarium, before they leave for London on Thursday.

Derek Jarvis, Southend councillor responsible for culture, said: “This is a terrific opportunity for Southend to host our special guests from Sopot.

“It is very pleasing to see the dynamic links between Southend and Sopot continually being made and strengthened.

“We feel sure everyone will give our Sopot visitors a very warm Southend welcome.”

Prehaps they are visiting the pier because Sopot also has a pier its the longest wooden pier in Europe, ours is the longest in the World.
