Protest over plan for 326 new homes in Rochford

A COMMUNITY turned out in force to voice its objections to plans to build 326 homes on green belt land in Rochford.

More than 100 people, including two local MPs and councillors, attended the protest at Coombes Farm, off Stambridge Road, on Saturday morning.

It was organised by the Residents Against Coombes Farm Expansion Group in response to proposals by developer Colonnade.

Last year, Rochford Council rejected Colonnade’s plans for the huge housing development.

But the developer appealed and the Government’s planning inspectorate will consider the plans at an inquiry, starting on April 13.

The group has already collected more than 300 signatures online.

If only things were as clear cut as your post implies. Why do you think the Government's Planning Inspectorate is holding an inquiry? This wonderful Government of ours will not be happy until the whole of the south east, greenbelt or not, is under concrete.

I was at the photo call, I must say that the posative energy was buzzing it was red hot but it would seem that the echo have once again poured water on the voices of residencee a very disapointing report, .it was not reported that colannade have approched many farms in the area buying green belt land with a view to concrete it over Greenbelt land should not be built on when there are many other more appropreiate sites identified in the core stratergy the very reason it is listed as green belt land it to protect it

The coombes farm project will go ahead,,if you look at the growth of rochford over the last couple of years you can see most large scale building applications were granted,,, Rochford is expanding ,,The new airport & station are an example all done on greenbelt

How old are you? the New Airport was built in 1914. If you mean the terminal, that is on the existing airport site, as well as the station. If you mean the control tower that is permitted development.
So if they are an exmple of building on green belt, then what is existing usage????

Shame on you Rochford Council. Shame, shame, shame !!!! Over the years, you have ruined what was once a vibrant community. The total distruction of Rochford Hospital, a mainstay of local employment. How many local families can say that at some time at least one of their family worked there, most of them I would say. The loss of the Bobbing, another concrete jungle. What an eyesore. Now Coombes Farm. More concrete !!! And you allow it on green belt land. Is nothing sacred any more. You should be ashamed.
