BUDDHIST monks blessed a restaurant following a refurbishment to mark its 25th anniversary.

The ten-week transformation of Manoly, in Leigh Broadway, included the creation of two flats above the restaurant for the head chef and sous chef.

All the new fittings at have been sourced by manager Mee Wolff from Chiang Mai, a city in northern Thailand.

Mee said: “We really wanted the restaurant to be a totally authentic experience. All the staff are Thai, so we needed the surroundings to match.

“While the building work was going on, I was in Chiang Mai picking out wood carvings, decorations, tableware – in fact absolutely everything you will see in the new restaurant – and having it shipped back to the UK.

“We wanted to get the new Manoly off to the right start and enjoy another 25 years of good fortune, so we invited Buddhist monks to perform a complex and very beautiful traditional blessing ceremony.”
