A HILLTOP garden played host to Britain’s top TV gardener when Alan Titchmarsh opened Hyde Hall Gardens’ new visitor centre.
The presenter cut the ribbon and declared the new £3million centre open, before planting an Italian oak tree to commemorate his visit.
He was assisted in the planting by pupils from the garden club at Collingwood Primary School in South Woodham Ferrers. Clearly impressed by the new visitor centre, Mr Titchmarsh joked: “It’s the finest shed I’ve ever set eyes on.”
The event was hosted by Giles Coode-Adams, president of the Royal Horticultural Society, who is also Hyde Hall’s owner.
Also present was former Government minister Lord Heseltine, honorary vice-president of the RHS.
