Smith ousted by Tories in South Basildon

DAVID Cameron's Conservatives have sensationally snatched the South Basildon and East Thurrock seat from Labour.
Tory candidate Stephen Metcalfe emerged victorious over Labour's Angela Smith.
Mr Metcalfe polled 19,624 and Mrs Smith polled 13,852.
The seat was always difficult for Mrs Smith to win because of boundary changes and Labour's poor showing in the polls.
The loss will be a personal tragedy for Mrs Smith, who has served as a close aid to Gordon Brown and a senior minister in the Cabinet Office.
Mrs Smith, who was born in Pitsea, was visibly upset when the votes were read out by returning officer Bala Mahendran.
Mrs Smith: "I've been very proud to have been the MP for Basildon and East Thurrock for 13 years. Tonight, we have loaned the seat to the Conservatives, but that is a short-term loan and we intend to take it back.
Mr Metcalfe said: "I'm thankful people have put their trust in me and I will be open and honest with them and demonstrate integrity in everythin I do."

If Labour had been doing a good job she wouldn't have lost her job(s). That's a simple and undeniable fact.
As soon as she admits this and sets the blame at her bosses feet, she'll be living a lie.

Lets get one thing straight about this country....WE got it in to debt because WE want to live above our means, and WE are too stupid to change our ways without a good kick up the backside. I hope the recession is a long, long way from being over, because WE need teaching a hard lesson. The lesson our fathers and forefathers learned a long, long time ago. Neither a borrower or a lender be!
So before you dimwits start throwing stones at others, look at yourselves and see what you could have changed!

Schools in the area - she claims to be championing more schools. Yet she was MP when Laindon High School and Fryerns closed. With new housing estates being built on them, parents are currently forced to send children out of the area

She lives 45 minutes from Westminster yet used taxpayers money to fund a second home. I lived 2hrs 30mins from Teddington and commuted five days a week. Why couldn't she get off her arse and get a train like the rest of us?

Stephen Metcalfe knocked on my door. We had a chat. I never saw Angela. Even Gordon Brown didn't have a clue, visiting Basildon and telling voters how great she was - outside of her constituancy.
