TALENTED youngsters from disadvantaged backgrounds are being offered the chance to aim for the stars thanks to a new performing arts scholarship scheme.
Roydon Academy of Performing Arts, in Maple Avenue, Leigh, offers training for youngsters in all aspects of performing arts, and will soon be running a scholarship scheme to help disadvantaged youngsters get a foot in the door.
Trudy Miller, owner and principal of the academy, was inspired to offer the scholarships after helping a talented dancer from a single-parent family widen his skills in order to win a place at a performing arts college.
She said: “To get a part or full scholarship, having the right training as a youngster is very important.
“There’s so much talent out there but no one ever really gives kids this opportunity when they are young enough to really benefit. The more training they get now, the better chance they stand of getting on to courses and getting scholarships in the future.”
The academy is now preparing to offer one full scholarship and two half-scholarships to boys aged between 11 and 18.
On Saturday, September 25, boys hoping to win one of the places can show off their skills at an audition.
