Seafront traffic queues due to temporary lights

TRAFFIC queued on Southend seafront this morning due to roadworks and temporary lights near the Kursaal.

Motorists were held up in both directions on Western Esplanade due to work near the pier, and the area up to Sea Life Adventure Centre was also congested.

The lights are at the Kursaal, but the work is near the pier?

People moan if the council do not do anything then moan when they do, you are never going to please everyone all the time.

I would rather the roadworks be there knowing that the reason for them is to improve the seafront than not have the roadworks and not have the improvements coming.

If your in so much of a rush to get to wherever you are going a simple bit of advice leave earlier.

The traffic around Southend is now so bad. I leave Temple Farm Industrial Estate regularly and the traffic is at a standstill in all directions. It was quicker for me to go down Bournmouth Park Road and through Southend town centre (8 miles out of my way) to get to my home in Westcliff (normaly 3 miles).
There are so many traffic lights and hold-ups now, the Council are a bunch of two faced liars and the place is a shambles. I was born in Southend and I used to love it. I have now had enough...
My family and I and my girlfriend and her family are moving to Wales, and will never return to Southend again.

I went to Wales recently - I'm certain I came across some traffic lights there too...
...
Plus, what about all the sheep crossing the road?

I was in south Wales a few months ago and there were quite a lot of traffic lights there, both for normal traffic control and for roadworks. Perhaps a desert island would be better for you. Perhaps not though, falling coconuts might cause a holdup and you would have to move somewhere else, maybe Southend!

These people that constantly complain about traffic in Southend being so bad. Have you been to other towns and cities in the UK?
The traffic here is not that bad in comparison.
It's a seaside town, so you get some bottlenecks. And when they are doing major developments you will get some more traffic bottlenecks. Why is it even news???

Southend is not the total gridlock people seem to believe.
I bet the people in the midlands would laugh at our so called grid locked town.

I thought traffic in Wales was baaaaaaaaaad. But to move with your patrents and (GULP) girlfriends parents well that would be worse than stuck in any traffic. LOL

Work is only half complete but already its looking far better than it did, you have to admit that it was tired and run daown before work started.

There are some who refuse and hate change hate the thought of anything diffrent that is not inkeeping with their view, for a quite seaside town that is too scared to look to the future and invest in being diffrent and not wanting to stay stuck in the past glorys that have long faded long died.

For far too long Southend remained still it became stagnant and relied on a decrepit seafront that was stuck in the past nothing new nothing to entice families.

The changes that are now underway will go along way to improve things.
Hopefully the Dizzyland site will also soon find a new use and finally drag the seafront kicking and screaming into a new era.

If you don’t like the changes simple fact is you don’t have to go down there stay away.

Now our good friends at Arriva have jumped upon the 'It's Not Our Fault' wagon with some posters designed to tell everyone that 'It's Not Our Fault' that the roadworks are making their buses run behind schedule (yes, they do in fact have a timetable). You can also add the following to your list: 'Sorry Not In Service' buses tend to ruin people's schedules like the SIX IN A ROW along the Number 9 route a few Friday's ago (YES I SAID SIX).

Ewe are digging the bottom of the barrel with that joke... :-D
...
But can you imagine if the traffic in Wales is worse? May well be the first relationship to fail due to traffic lights!
