Hollywood blockbuster to be filmed in Southend

A HOLLYWOOD blockbuster is set to be filmed on Southend seafront.

The team behind The Fast And The Furious 6 has reportedly chosen the location to avoid disruption in London due to the Olympics.

There will be filming in the capital but our town will feature in the supercar film.

Presumably in the shared space it will be rather dull watching a chase at 20mph with the average speed cameras ?

Great, just what the town needs. Episode 6 in the braindead petrolhead series shot in our town.

With the new 20 mile an hour speed limit, should they call the film “Slow and Livid!”

ha ha what a joke this town does not deserve to appear on a film about cars. average speed cameras yes, overpriced parking yes, over officious parking wardens yes, congestion yes, the hounding out of car crusiers yes and maybe the biggest killer of this film speed bumps.

I will add that ANY film that is the sixth episode in a pretty much straight -to-DVD series, is NOT a Hollywood blockbuster.

Make them welcome, they will bring money into the town and hopefully others will follow.

So a film company say we want to spend some money in your town making a big film...

and the saddos moan about it, what if they were asking for extras to star in the film bet you would all sign up.

I for one hope this happens it would be a feather in the cap and get Southend some BIG time free advertising.

Those against clearly do not want to see Southend being popular with film makers so prehaps they should move to margate where nothinng happens.

Lets hope it happens and its not wishfull thinking.

Boom - bang on - Southend is full of moaners!

I was gunna say that Fast & Furious 3 and 4 admittedly seemed like they had slid into the 10 a penny, straight to DVD rut, however the 5th seemed to re-ignite the series with an almost all star cast – the first 2 were also definitely blockbusters! The 5th ones got Vin Diesel, Paul Walker, The Rock, rap star Ludacris, RnB star Tyrese, Michelle Rodriguez and other faces I recognise – it’s not as cheap and nasty as a lot on here have made out.

I hate the action films with lots of explosions, gun shots and half naked women that’s got no intelligence to it whatsoever! Although a bit silly at times, I don’t think the latest film was like this (Die Hard 4 was more ridiculous and that cost £115 million or something). This could be a good film!

I'm not moaning about it, I think it's great - I merely made a joke. Shame people don't laugh anymore just always want to cause friction.

Hmmmmm – Afterthought - After people I’ve told about this movie keep asking me why it would be filmed here it came to me - – What two things is Essex very well-known for – two things that this film epitomises?? “Promiscuous” ahem, women and boy racers!!! lol

He's probably queueing up already to get his chipped up and body kitted Daewoo and his backward facing New York Yankees cap on screen.....

Does it really matter that we don't know the "film"? They chose Southend. Pretty good, I think. Comments above just degrade yourselves and are not true representatives, of the people in Southend.

Sadly there is a hard-core sect of Southend haters on here, no matter what the good news is they can only ever find a negative comment to post about it.

Even if somebody came along and said I will give Southend £100billlion to fix the Pier, build the museum in the cliffs restore every house grass verge every road and pay every households bills fir the next ten years they would find a fault with it.

Thing is with F&F6 if it happens and they ask for extras you just know that those moaning about it will be the first in line to be in the film.

How many of these moaners actually live in the Southend area? Wait for the nimbys come out of the woodwork. I already know what they will say "when they start filming I'm going to drive at 10mph winge moan winge moan not in my back yard"

All previous films have a massive ROI. The last one was over 400% making half a billion.

I think it's safe to say this one will be a success also.

Let's hope they concentrate on the British element and not all the poncing foreigners that are here at the present - mind you, the film probably needs Bank robbers, muggers, rapists and scroungers !!!

For a change it was good to see that more people stood up for Southend then is normally the case.

I only ever watched the first of those movies and I can't say it's for me really but that doesn't matter, each one to their own.

Almost anything that will help Southend financially, be it in the long or short term should be greeted with some kind of appreciation. Unless of course you are of the opinion that all that our town amounts to can be summed up as drug addiction, knife stabbing, pick pocketing, lavishly adorned with a Council that get absolutely everything wrong, regardless what they do.

I've said this in another comment some time ago. My wife and I are from Germany originally and we love Southend and everything around it. Seriously, the country is big enough, if things are THAT bad, go there or even better, take action yourself. Get involved, there are plenty of ways to do that.

Oh, plain forgot, they'd have to assume responsibility, can't have that now, can we.

Get a life, have a little more respect for this town and most importantly: Don't throw your rubbish everywhere. This is a town, not a landfill site.

I can’t believe there are peeps out there who’ve never heard of the films. I would think that anyone who goes to the cinema/who rents DVDs or who watches films at all would have known of them at least. The first one was very eagerly awaited amongst males of my age at the time! I guess they are focused on the male gender more than female but they’re still big movies.
