Out in the cold – a man a hooded jacket looks at his belongings Out in the cold – a man a hooded jacket looks at his belongings

TWO people were kicked out of a council flat after they were found to be living there illegally by drugs busting cops.

The pair had to reclaim their goods from the snow-covered streets yesterday after they were kicked out of the flat in East Street, Southend.

A shopping trolley was loaded with the goods while a flat-screen television and sofa were seen being carried away yesterday afternoon.

They were kicked out a day after police raided 30 flats and houses in Southend and East London in search of Class A drugs.

The busts were the result of an operation launched in October, which saw officers go undercover to buy illegal substances.

It led to the arrest of 37 people suspected of being involved in the illegal trade, two of whom were picked up from East Street, where they were found to be squatting.

A Southend Council spokes-man said: “As a result of the police action, it was found there were a couple of people living there who shouldn’t have been. They weren’t the tenants.

“It is believed to be one of these incidences where they’ve targeted a vulnerable tenant.

“South Essex Homes secured the property, but when the pair were released on bail they went back.

“They were asked to leave yesterday morning, when South Essex Homes went back to secure the property permanently, and it has done.”

Ironically, the pair were kicked out from the flat opposite where a hundred police held their operational briefing at the TA Centre on Wednesday.

South Essex Homes has vowed to kick out anyone who is convicted of drugs offences, as a result of the operation.

Police raided addresses in Coleman Street, Chancellor Road, Cambridge Road, and Sherwood Way, Southend.

In Westcliff, raids happened in Genesta Road, Pantile Avenue, North Road, London Road, Fairfax Drive, Salisbury Avenue and Palmerstone Road.

The only reason south essex knomes took action is because it was forced to act by police ,if they were so bothered about drug addicts and dealers why did they not kick out the scumbags that have been moving in on vulnerable people in the town center tower blocks , simple it costs to much money and their drippy limp gutless staff don't have to live near the problems

You have a point there. I also bet that no tenants will be evicted as a result of these raids by any social housing provider. These people were only kicked out as they were not the legal tenants, not because of their illegal activities. Given the description of their possessions, they seem to be relatively affluent, so won't be reduced to living on the streets I bet.

I have several friends that are local councillors, 2 are tory 2 are independent, they work very hard for those that elected them, I have no time for people that use there power to suit their pals and are so arrogant as to ignore what experts paid to do a job advise them, as for south essex homes, they ignore the rules and do little to resolve real issues , it is all window dressing , they will waste hundreds of thousands on crackpot projects yet do not deal with the basics, top heavy with staff that spend their days sending out pointless surveys then ignore them if they don't go their way, they spend to much time sucking up to a handfull of self elected tenants that claim to represent tenants and have a clearly ensured that the board is made of of councillors that have not a clue what is going on and a baffoon of a chairman that has no idea how to run a board , that way they can fob them off, SEH was formed to get goverment money now they have it they can be closed down , it has become a quango which the town cant afford, if they sack off the paper clip brigade, stop wasting money on things like taxis to take tenants to meetings about matters they dont understand and just make sure money spent is spent wisely they might stay, if they had not spent their time building an empire of pointless departments and just ran a good housing department they would not get bad press, ever heard of hair &son having problems with drug dealers and crims in their managed blocks, clear enough for you

and you think that in this 'politically correct' world, it is so easy to evict people? Wake up! if you have 'councillor' friends then maybe you would realise how hard it would be for anyone to evict someone in this day and age.

Things are never that straight forward, maybe you are just too dumb to realise this?

It's not just Southend who has these issues.

Just another person giving an opinion on things they know nothing about

I have followed Save Southends posts for a while and believe he is one of those same unelected representatives that claim to represent residents/tenants, but only really represents themselves.
SEH is far better at managing the properties than Southend Council ever were, but there is still a lot of room for improvement.
I may be wrong but if he is who I think he is, then I believe Save Southend to be what they call a street block voice. A unelected person that thought he could get things done his way and then found out that he can't. He normally then goes on to rant about east europeans who shouldn't be working here or parking there and he knows this and that person in authority etc etc. Somewhat of a walter mitty character who sends off complaints to SEH and the papers on a regular basis, most of it total rubbish, but because he knows better than anyone else, whereas in reality it makes him feel good about himself .
He is right about the surveys and taxis though, although the rest is complete self indulgent drivel as usual

I've a neighbour like that. He told the water people they couldn't move his car when they needed to dig the road up and he was 'going to call the police'. When they told him they have a legal right to move it themselves he told them if they touched his car he'd have them done by the police instead. Our neighbour is an absolute **** and gives us great amusement.

Anyone who thinks SEH is better than SCC were has not lived under both as some I know. They leave holes in walls, when doing what they call making decent homes etc etc. My neighbour could write a book. not a bad idea come to think of it, then he could buy somewhere.
