  • "you are all wrong, school holidays have started and this area near the old rebels lane is a magnet for yobs , vandalism goes through the roof when schools are out, and parks will have the usual late night gangs as they dont have to get up in the morning, when i was at school the first thing we did was get out and ask everyone for casual work, 6 weeks of loads of money well 4pounds for 7days on the seafront stalls or peter pans etc, no time to smash or burn property, why such long hols! are the teachers preparing for the next term , would not think so as most school leavers I have tried to employ are what we called in my school days a dunce , so one week and back to school, cut down on crime, when plod was asked why they did not expect an increase in youth crime the reply was they had not anticipated it , der,, it happens every year"

Trees on fire by golf course in Southend

Firefighters had to tackle a blaze which engulfed more than 20 trees by a golf course in Southend.

Crews from Southend fire station were called out at 9pm on Monday night to the incident next to the course on Eastern Avenue.

It took the officers 45 minutes to extinguish the blaze which also took out some hedgerow nearby.

Firefighters who tackled the blaze believe a discarded cigarette thrown into some grass next to the trees may have started the fire.
