DOCK workers have staged another strike as part of an ongoing dispute with bosses.

Workers at the Enterprise Distribution Centre, in Tilbury, began a 48-hour walkout yesterday after claiming the company failed to act following a 24-hour strike earlier in the month.

Unite, the union representing the dockers, has served notice for another 48-hour strike on Sunday, promising more action until the situation is resolved.

Workers are angry at changes to shift patterns, which will see them brought in to unload ships when they arrive, rather then having set hours.

Jane Jeffery, the regional docks officer for Unite, said: “Dockers have fought long and hard to earn a work balance.”

The port’s managing director, Perry Glading, said 70 per cent of staff had turned up to work and not gone on strike.

He said: “The strike action is having no affect on the business. I think we will all find a resolution. The port employs 3,500 people. This strike affects 45 of those.”
