VIDEO: Our struggle with Huntington's

THIS week, a series of photofilms recorded and edited by Echo photographer Anna Lukala is being run on the our as part of Huntington’s disease Awareness Week.

Every day, we will show interviews from family members, friends and those with the disease about their battle and hopes for a cure.

The documentary series, called 50:50, aims to tell the story of people living with the disease and raise awareness.

Today, we speak to Carrol Smith whose husband, Gary, has Huntington’s disease.

There will be more information and interviews printed this week to run alongside the five clips shown on a dedicated section on our website.

The week, which runs until Sunday, June 17, aims to raise awareness and funds for research into the condition.

David McDonagh says...

This project is to raise Awareness and help with Research into this devastating illness. It is just so brilliant to have a wider 'means of communicating' for our HD families where communication is generally lost in the battle against H.D. I cannot express my admiration enough for the people involved in these 5 clips and also for the professionalism of Anna Lukala, Emma Palmer and Emma Thomas. Nothing has been sensationalised and our families have been treated with respect and dignity. This project tells it as it is and can only help enormously with understanding and helping those with HD.
