Body found in Grays street - UPDATED

A man in his 50s has died after his body was discovered lying in a street in Grays.

The body was found by a passer-by in Wharf Road at about 1.15am on Saturday morning.

Despite being rushed to Basildon Hospital, the man, who has been described as black and about six feet tall, died just after 4am.

Investigations carried out by Essex Police have concluded the death had "no known suspicious circumstances".

A spokesman for Essex Police said: "Medical evidence is consistent with witness statements that the events which led to his death are not suspicious."

The case has now been sent to the coroners office for further investigation. When the body was found, the man had visible head injuries.

Before his death, the man had been seen in Grays town centre and the train and bus station in Crown Road.
