Southend Roadshow will spot people at risk of diabetes
5:24pm Tuesday 10th July 2012 in Local News
A DIABETES roadshow will be at Victoria Circus in Southend on July 12 and 13.
Diabetes UK’s Healthy Lifestyle Roadshow will offer people in the area a free assessment to discover whether they are at risk of developing type 2 diabetes.
An estimated 25,800 people in Essex have Type 2 diabetes but are unaware they have the condition.
The roadshows aim to tackle this by highlighting risk factors and encouraging members of the public to change their lifestyles, because 60 per cent of cases could be prevented through lifestyle change.
The event, supported by Bupa, will take place from 9am to 5pm.
If after taking the test people are found to be at moderate or high risk of developing the condition they will be advised to visit their GP.
