12:37pm Sunday 21st October 2012 in Local News By Emma Thomas
BURGLARS ran off with a mobile phone after being disturbed by the homeowner during a daytime break-in.
Two thieves smashed the window of the house in Arterial Road, Leigh, near to the junction with Shirley Road, shortly after 1.30pm on Wednesday, October 17.
The teenage crooks were disturbed by the homeowner and, after snatching a mobile phone, ran off along the A127 towards Rayleigh between the junctions of Eastwood Road North and Bellhouse Lane.
Investigating officer, Dc Iain White, said: "This burglary happened in the middle of the day on a main road. Motorists would have noticed two teenagers running off from the scene of a crime and it is these people who should contact us. They are key witnesses. Hopefully, the clothing description will help jog those memories.”
One of the burglars is described as white, is aged in his late teens, is of slim build, is approximately 5ft 9ins tall, has blonde hair, a tanned complexion and was wearing a light-blue polo shirt and dark-blue jogging bottoms at the time.
A forensic examination of the house was carried out as were house-to-house enquiries.
Anyone with information in connection with this burglary is urged to contact detectives at Southend police station on 101.
