POLICE say burglars who stole £9,000 of family heirlooms left the owners devastated.

The raiders forced open the back door of the Asian family’s home in Longacre, Basildon and stole gold, including bangles and necklaces.

They ransacked the property before stashing the jewellery, which had been passed down through generations of the family, into a red floral pillowcase and leaving.

Det Con Jo Phillips, of Basildon CID, is appealing for the public’s help to catch the raiders. She said: “The family targeted in this burglary have been left extremely upset after having their home invaded by these burglars. Many of the items taken were very sentimental pieces and cannot be replaced.

“We are continuing to make inquiries. As part of the investigation we have released pictures of some of the items taken.

“The flower necklace is particularly distinctive and we would urge anyone with any information, or who has been offered the items to get in touch with us.”

Anyone with information can can contact Det Con Phillips at Basildon police station, on 101, or pass it on anonymously by calling Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.
