A 14-YEAR-OLD girl has been hailed a hero after she ran to the aid of a fellow pupil, after he was hit by a car.

Kirsty Murray, who attends Bromfords School, in Grange Avenue, Wickford, supported 11-year-old Aaron Franklin’s head and stayed with him until ambulance crews arrived, after an accident in Nevendon Road, Wickford.

The quick-thinking teenager was given an award by the East of England Ambulance Service, during a special assembly.

Aaron’s mum, Debbie, has heaped praise on Kirsty and ambulance officer Brad Lane, said he had never seen anything like it in 28 years.

Kirsty was in the car with her mum when she saw Aaron hit by the vehicle and then jumped out to help.

Mr Lane added: “The handover she gave was the kind we expect from our staff. We asked her what first aid she had done and she said none.

“We were gobsmacked at how she dealt with it. Never inmy 28 years with the ambulance service have I seen anything like it.”

Kirsty stayed with Aaron until he was put on a spinal board.

He was taken to Basildon Hospital for checks and was on crutches for a week.

He said: “I want to say thank you to her for helping me. She really calmed me down when I was in shock.”

His mum, Debbie Franklin, from Wickford, said: “Aaron’s legs were twisted up under him and he was in a bad state of shock. By the time I got there five minutes later he was quite calm.

“Kirsty was invaluable, she is a real credit to her school and family.

“She kept Aaron calm and still. Without her the outcome could have been a lot worse. I think she was running on adrenaline as she broke down after. She held it together though and it shows how strong she is.”

Kirsty’s mum, Lisa said: “Before I could even stop the car she was out. Her natural reaction was to get out and help him. We’re immensely proud of her.”

Daniel Gee, headteacher at the Bromfords School, said: “I’m incredibly proud of what Kirsty has done. It takes great courage to put yourself in those difficult situations. There are many times when people stand back and let someone else do it.”
