NEWLEYWEDS are appealing for help after thieves broke into their home and stole thousands of pounds worth of items including a wedding ring.

Alexandra and Alex Collins, both 28, were married in September and were shocked to find thieves had broken into their home in Fairview Avenue, Stanford-le-Hope, on Saturday.

The couple were left heartbroken after noticing some of their wedding jewellery, including a set of earrings and a wedding ring had been stolen.

Altogether, items worth up to £2,400 were taken from the couple’s home.

Mrs Collins said: “They broke in through the back. It is horrible. The jewellery that was taken wasn’t that expensive, but it was sentimental.

“We are a really hard-working couple and it’s just the fact someone has been in our home and taken our things.”

The thieves took a wedding ring, wedding earrings, a watch, Pandora bracelet, an iPad, a Kindle, a PlayStation, a laptop and bank cards which they attempted to use at cash points in Tilbury and Chadwell St Mary.

Mrs Collins added: “They tried to use our bank cards twice and we’re hoping CCTV was able to catch them.

“It is really upsetting and it shows how careful and vigilant people need to be with alarmsystems and keeping valuables out in the open even in their home.”

Essex police are investigating the incident and are appealing for witnesses.

A spokes-woman said: “Police are investigating after a house in Fairview Avenue; Stanford-le- Hope was burgled.

“It happened sometime between 9.30am and 7.30pm on Saturday, December 6.

“Electrical items, jewellery and bank cards worth about £2,400 were stolen.

“Anyone with information about the break-in is asked to contact Essex Police on 101.
