Basildon households who signed up for a countywide scheme could save as much as £245 each on their energy bills.

About 4,800 homes signed up for the latest round of the Essex energy switch scheme.

Following an auction between energy companies, the scheme has been able to secure a collective deal for all households involved.

Basildon Council partnered with energy switching group iChoosr *corr* to deliver the scheme.

E.ON and Scottish Power will supply contracts following the auction.

Tony Hedley, councillor responsible for housing, said: “We want to do what we can to help residents and businesses keep their energy costs as low as possible against rising gas and electricity prices.

“Those who took part in the last Essex Energy Switch saved an average of more than £200.

“We fully support this scheme and are pleased to see hard working residents are set to benefit.”

Filip Vissers, UK country manager for iChoosr Ltd, said: “All of the tariffs are market leading and exclusive to scheme members.

“These rates are not available direct from the suppliers or via price comparison services.”
