A litterbug ended up being arrested for drugs offences after police found he had cocaine, cannabis and £1,500 hidden in his boxer shorts.

PCs Dan Onley and Andrew Heard were driving down Luncies Road, Vange, when they saw a silver Audi A5 turning into a car park behind a parade of shops.

They spotted the driver roll down his window and throw out cigarette boxes, bits of paper, food and other waste from inside.

When they pulled the car over, the officers noticed the passenger looked “nervous” and discovered the pair had six small bags of cannabis on them, worth £120, as well as a small bag of cocaine worth £50.

When the men were arrested and searched at Basildon Police Station, one of them was found to have £1,500 in notes hidden in his boxer shorts.

PC Onley said: “I thought we would check out the car after we saw the driver throwing rubbish out of the window.

“It seemed like it was the entire contents of his car, there was a lot of it.

“That triggered our interest.

When someone does something like that, it shows they don’t really care. We thought we would tell him off for that.

“I spoke to the passenger and I asked him if he had anything on him he shouldn’t have.

“He produced a small bag of cannabis. He looked nervous so we got him out of the car and searched him.”

A 24-year-old man and 22-yearold man, both from Basildon, were arrested on Friday on suspicion of possession with intent to supply cannabis.

The 22-year-old was also arrested on suspicion of possessing cocaine. They were questioned and have been released on police bail until November 12.

PC Onley said: “It was a great arrest for us as we showed our initiative.

We are always keen to target drug dealers inBasildon. Drug dealing will not be tolerated
