A HEAVILY-PREGNANT commuter had to sit on the floor because selfish passengers would not give up their seats.

Louisa Hussey, 27, who is almost eight months pregnant with her first baby, was left in tears when other passengers failed to offer to stand and give up their seats.

She uses c2c’s 7.24am service from Basildon to Fenchurch Street daily, but ended up sitting on the floor on her journey to work on Wednesday.

The mum-to-be, who works in accounts at law firm Debevoise and Plimpton, said: “I was so upset and frustrated because people saw me and then put their heads down quickly as if they hadn’t seen me.

“Passengers are really selfish. It can be men or women.

“I feel people need to be made more aware of pregnant commuters.”

Miss Hussey and her fiance Paul Scott are now calling on c2c to update its priority seating so pregnant women are given the same rights as the disabled and elderly.

Ellen Rossiter, c2c spokeswoman, said: “We’re grateful for the comments regarding priority seat labelling.

“Labelling of this sort is carried out to meet rail industry standards and on c2c we provide more priority seats on our trains than the minimum requirements.”
