SPEEDING motorists got their comeuppance when cops armed with speed guns took to the streets.
Officers from Pitsea carried out the crackdown on motorists flouting speed limits, after residents raised it as one of their top concerns.
Residents highlighted the issue of speeding, in The Fryth and Lincoln Road, to police at a meeting of Fryerns and Craylands Neighbourhood Action Panel.
Officers acted on their concerns, and set up at both locations with the speed guns, in a bid to snare the culprits.
In Lincoln Road, police community support officers recorded the speeds of 68 cars, of which ten were found to be in excess of the limit.
While, in The Fryth, they clocked the speeds of 37 vehicles, with just one found breaking the law.
The officers said they will continue the clampdown, issuing fixed penalty notices to anyone flouting the limit.
Fryerns police community support officer Ryan Tullett said: “Speeding is a great concern to members of the community and police. The speed limit exists for a reason, and we want residents to feel safe crossing the road without fearing motorists who break the law.
“Neighbourhood panels are a great way for us to understand what the community wants sorting out.
“If you tell us, we will listen, and act upon your concerns.
“Road accidents devastate lives, and if this is caused by speeding, it becomes a criminal act.
“We will be relentless in our pursuit of criminals on the streets of Fryerns.”
