A SPECIAL event has been held to celebrate ten years of the Thurrock Community Chest scheme.
During that time, the scheme has donated more than £200,000 to good causes.
More than 100 people attended the event at Orsett Hall.
Executive secretary Pat Noble said: “It is always rewarding to be able to get together those who enable our charity to continue its good work along with those who receive support as a result.”
The Thurrock Community Chest was created in 1999 by then mayor Carl Morris, who is still closely involved with the charity, as its president.
The annual charity prize draw is its main source of income.
Money comes in via groups which sell tickets on behalf of the community chest, within their own organisations and also at sites where local businesses allow ticket sales.
Half the ticket money goes directly to the organisation which sold it. A proportion also goes to St Luke's Hospice, Basildon and the the rest goes to the to community Chest for distribution to the good causes.
