60 new traveller pitches not for Dale Farm group

BASILDON Council has hinted for the first time it may create 60 new traveller pitches by 2011.

Yet this does not mean they will be alternative homes for those facing eviction at Dale Farm, Crays Hill, and Hovefields, Wickford,.

Dawn French, council head of planning, said if the council allocates land it would be for a number of small sites, not a huge camp.

She wrote in a letter to campaigner Grattan Puxon: “I have also clearly stated it was most unlikely land would be allowed for 60 pitches together.”

The council is required to provide 62 pitches by 2011, following a Government ruling.

But council leader Tony Ball said: “Only if we are forced to provide them would this happen, as we would not allow another large site.”

Mr Puxon argues if the council does have to meet the quota, it should put on hold the eviction so people at Dale Farm and Hovefields could move there.

However, Mrs French explained any new sites could be a long way off, and she warned finding alternative sites was not part of ongoing eviction negotiations.

She added: “I have repeatedly informed you there can be no undertakings regarding allocated land.

“Site allocation is not the basis of any discussions with the Dale Farm group.”

Meanwhile human rights organisations from Bangladesh, Egypt, Germany and the United States have contacted the council urging it to put the eviction on hold until alternatives are found.

Mr Ball added: “We listen to any groups, but this won’t change our position. We are dealing with UK law.”

Well done Tony Ball, we should tell these minority human rights do-gooders to butt out and mind their own business. They don't have to live with the intimidation and crime caused by Dale Farm and Hovefields squatters. Grattan Puxon should keep his long nose out as well, he is making the situation worse.

I'm still hoping that Basildon do not have too provide 60 plots. We have our fair share.

Basildon Council were absolutely right to fight the unauthorised developments at Dale Farm and Hovefields .
Local people should now urge the Council to challenge the government through the courts and ask the opposition political parties what their policy on this will be at the next general election .

It’s not on to allocate 62 to Basildon but only 15 each to Brentwood, Castle Point, Rochford and Sout

Human right groups from around the world should get lost.

These Irish trash are not human and a disgrace to the Irish nation who know how to deal with them in Ireland.

Local authorities should not be providing any sites at all. The G/T "culture" needs to end.

True we have a ruling by an unelected quango that each authority "must" build x amount of pitches but the population at large have not been consulted as to whether it is right in principle to make specific housing provision for just one group based solely on "ethnicity" or culture.

GLC boroughs are resisting via Ken the Buffoon and every other authority should do likewise. Surely it is against the human rights of all those in Britain who have to find their own accomodation, be it rented or purchased, that G/Ts are selected as a special case?

Anyone see the the BBC documentary on Euro gypsies? If you thought we had problems now - imagine where these poor persecuted criminal elements will head-for once we commit this folly.....
