Street cleaning hit squad targets Vange

A STREET cleaning hit squad will descend on Vange, in a bid to spruce up the area.

Basildon Council said it is sending in graffiti crews, street sweepers, and park crews to the Vange Hill Drive area to give it a spring clean.

The hit squad will carry out its visit on March 20, when residents will also be able to put out any extra rubbish as part of a rubbish amnesty.

It is one of 13 clean up days across the district.

Luke Mackenzie, assistant cabinet member for community and Vange ward member, said he had been calling for the clean up.

He said: “The residents of Vange deserve to live in a clean and pleasant environment.

“The clean up day will go a long way in improving the local environment.”

The squad will be in the area between 8am and 4pm. Anyone who wants to take part in the rubbish amnesty is asked to put their trash out by noon on the day.

As well as tidying up the area, the council hopes the day will also discourage people from flytipping.

Malcolm Buckley, councillor responsible for the environment, said he wanted residents to show their support for the scheme.

He said: “The council is determined to keep the district clean and periodic spring cleaning helps to add the sparkle we all want to see.

“I hope residents will support the council in making our district an even better place to live.

“I’m also delighted we shall be undertaking a further 12 similar events around the district this year.”
