A SPONSORED run in memory of reality TV star Jade Goody is to be held in Basildon.
Jade’s friends are organising the Race for Life to raise money for Cancer Research.
The mum-of-two lost her battle with cervical cancer a year ago and her friends hope the race will encourage more women to be screened for the disease.
Jade’s bridesmaid, Jennifer Smith, said: “We know Jade’s cancer battle raised awareness of cervical cancer, and we’re eager to ensure more people are educated on the symptoms and risks of cancer.”
It is hoped about 2,000 people will run on June 6, which would have been Jade’s 29th birthday.
The event will also include a two-minute silence, led by Jennifer and pals, Kate Jackson, Charlene Hull and Caroline Roberts, before the race.
Jade’s fight against the disease led thousands more women to have smear tests.

I've signed up to run this with my two young daughters. I'm not overly happy that this is now going to be turned into some circus in memory of someone who the media hated until she became terminally ill. Sad as it is, I thought people ran this race in memory of those they had personally lost or for people close to them who are battling this disease and in turn rasing money for cancer research, not in memory of Jade. Lets just hope her coke snorting mother (if thats what you can call her) does not make an appearace.
