Travellers lose housing court clash with council

BASILDON Council was right to offer bricks and mortar accommodation to travellers facing eviction from an illegal site, a judge has said.

John and Mary Flynn and John and Barbara Sheridan launched a county court appeal after the council offered them flats and housing across the district as alternative accommodation to their illegal pitches on the Dale Farm camp at Crays Hill.

They argued the council had a duty to find them alternative caravan pitches because of their nomadic roots.

However, his honour deputy circuit Judge Peter Dedman ruled the council houses were acceptable and refused leave for them to appeal his decision.

Great news, just a shame more time and money has been wasted.
.
Looking forward to seeing the end to this saga and for the council to learn from its mistakes and to ensure it never wastes so much money in this manner again.

Nomadic? So how long have they been at Dale Farm? No doubt this was considered by the judge when reaching his decision.
I suppose they will now accept the accommodation and commute nomad fashion between Dale Farm and their alternative housing according to the season.

Glory be! Someone please submit Judge Dedman's name to the Queen for consideration of her New Year's Honors list - at long last a judge with common sense! Well done that man! Dale Farm travellers - take a lesson from your mates at Hovefields and just pack up and go

Don't get excited just yet. This is just one of a series of appeals by multiple claimants..
Expect the legal process -paid for by you- to last several years yet.

Then we'll have to start the merry go round again becuase the original eviction order will have expired.

They will finally leave Dole Farm about the time Heck suffers an early frost.
