70 new homes planned in Wickford

DEVELOPERS are planning to build about 70 new homes on land in Wickford.

The development would be on a two-hectare site south of Downham Road.

The sizes of the homes has not yet been decided as plans are still at an early stage, but they are likely to be houses rather than flats.

The developer, Gleeson Homes and Gladedale Estates, owns the land and is organising two exhibitions to enable the public to view and comment on its ideas.

Laurence Quail, consultant for the project’s planners, JB Planning Associates, said: “We are looking at options for the land and considering submitting an application in the next few months.

“The form of development has not yet been determined and the design team welcome the opportunity to involve the public in the design.”

The exhibitions will be held at Wickford Training Centre, in Alderney Gardens, from 2pm until 8pm on Friday, March 4 and from 10am until 1pm on Saturday, March 5.

Whats the upper limit of new houses for Wickford then? Another thousand homes? Ten thousand? A hundred thousand? All these new homes have people who own cars, use water and the sewerage sytems. Need GP's use the Hospital services etc. Surely the areas infrastructure is creaking already.
Unlimited development cannot be allowed to continue or we'll all end up living in a huge slum. Greedy developers and supine councils will ruin what we have.
I suppose that nobody gives a stuff at the moment.

Yippee, can't wait...not. I agree with the above comment, Wickford's roads and GP services are already overloaded. For crying in a bucket, stop building new homes!

But at least they are houses, not flats.

Its not just Wickford that suffers from the over-building craze - just about everywhere in the south-east is having similar problems.

I suppose it's people from the East End displaced by the influx of lets say ...ahem..cough...new
comers. I don't blame them for moving out. However I do blame the idiot councils for not managing our precious community better. The councils relationship with developers is imo too **** cosy. Try saying no a bit more often. Secondly there should be a rule. No developments of over say five homes without the corresponding improvements to infrastructure..FIRS

Very likely. I was told the land backing a house in that very area was green belt therefore there would be no development on it, because noone ever builds on green belt ;). It just doesn't seem to matter one way or the other these days.

How many more new homes in Wickford? There are many homes up for sale that are not moving, flats have been built but not sold, more homes are planned to be built on brownfill sites. Why on earth should we lose more green space to build houses that nobody appears to want? We moved to a 'second hand' property in Wickford because we liked the size of the town etc. not for it to become like any built up area anywhere.
If the argument is because other people want to live here I may accept it if there are NO properties available for sale. A quick look on RightMove has found 395 not under offer ..... and that's only one site!
