Husband jailed for nine years for horrific abuse of wife

A MAN has been jailed for nine years for seriously assaulting his wife.

David Bell, 26, of Brackley Crescent, Basildon, was arrested in February 2011 after officers responded to a 999 call from the mobile telephone of his terrified wife.

Bell was jailed for nine years at Basildon Crown Court on Friday (July 8).

A low life bully that deserves 9 years inside.
I hope his misses is allowed to regain her life.
I hate wife abusers with a passion.

Must have been REALLY severe for a nine-year sentence.

I agree wholeheartedly with el caballero's views and also wish the woman well.

Least he'll get some of what he went in for when he's inside.
Some nice person will probably abuse his arse.

Look forward to the paper's story. Lovely isn't it when I try to defend our gender then a rectum like this puts us all to shame. I really hope the fellow prisoners are gentle with him when they rape him for the whole nine years!

Yes, the topic of male rape in prison comes up almost every time there is a story like this, or about a sexual offender.

Put alongside general comments seen on here that prison life is perceived as 'too soft' I imagine it has something to do with people clamouring for offenders to receive a 'real' punishment and that it would be painful, humiliating, degrading etc. In this view they are seen as 'deserving it.'

It is not a topic I really know anything about but I had a quick look on the internet and couldn't easily find any site containing statistics on male prison rape in the UK. Of course it could be being under-reported for obvious reasons.

What does seem pretty clear is that in the USA they both lock up more of their population and male prison rape is officially recognised as a serious issue.

Mr Bell's wife is a very good friend of mine and unfortunately what the papers wont report is her side and the horrific things this animal did to her, and also that they have a young baby who had to witness his vile acts, i wish Mr Bell gets more than 9 years he has been ruled a threat to society, this person is psychotic and manipulative and for the horrible things that he has done to my poor friend I hope he rots in jail till the day he dies! my friend will be fine she has support from her family and friends something this **** robbed her of for too long, i will pass on the positive comments to her i am sure she will appreciate the support

Thank you El cab. And I agree. But not always physical. Bully's work in many ways. Mental degradation is just as bad and can be just as destroying, though no one can see the physical scars.
My best wishes to the women concerned. Have a life, not all bad and well done. You will be fine. x

A very sad storey, I thought there are a special police team to deal with this type of crime and lots of women who like to talk with a deep voice that hang around womens safe haven type places and a social housing department to help rehouse so what went wrong here , 9years is a long time for no one to help, and with a child , perhaps an enquiry but they will say lessons have been learnt etc etc

9 years is the length of the sentence, as the article says three times, not the period the abuse was taking place.

seems I misread the article but I only have a brief read , still the point is it went on long enough for the lady to have a child so it was not just a few weeks or even months so I still say why did it take so long, to often people are ignored then we read about it after hubby goes completly barking and tops the wife and kids , then as I said lessons to learnt , and so on

1st time signed up for this newspaper gossip column as we bought place at a place called Ramsden. There are thousands of these abusers out there and ten percent are woman that can be just a cruel. Waiting to read what this person did to her but we will never get the full story. 9 years would have had to be very naughty indeed.

It might have gone on for months but the article does not say either way. It could equally have been a single incident.

I have an open mind on this and will await the Echo on Monday.

sometimes the *victim* be it male or female. makes excuses for why the abuser does what they do. stress at work, money worries, but these are no excuses to hurt your partner, even the words said out of spite and malice are just as scarring.
and for u the victim it takes alot of courage to either leave the family home or report the abuse to the authorities. did u know u can go to a refuge even when u have suffered mental abuse. i found out many years after i had sorted my life out.

I've just read the full article in today's Echo and seen a picture of his wife after one of his attacks(the date of this attack is not specified.)
The story tells of horrific abuse over a long period, even prior to their marriage.
This thug has been given a public protection order stating that he is not to be released until it can be proved he is no longer a danger and a restraining order to stop him from ever seeing his wafe or child again.
I just hope his poor wife is able to rebuild her life and find happiness elsewhere, although I doubt she will ever completely recover from the mental scars.

Just read the article - it is truely horrific. If anyone needs advice or information about domestic abuse, you can call The Dove Project on 01702 302333 (11am to 3pm, Mon-Fri). Or if you're a child you can call Fledgelings on 01702 343868.

What a dreadful story. Seems this control freak piece of human garbage has a severe mental problem exaggerated by the alleged continual use of artificial stimulents. He is clearly unstable and almost totally insecure. I would wager there has been no security in his own family unit...What on this earth prompts people to behave in this manner? I just hope the victims here are not scarred for life and that we do not learn of their demise when this "man" is released early from prison for his good behaviour. I just hope he meets with a fatal accident inside as wife and child beaters are not lag's favourite perps. Disgraceful.
