He'll be out in 4. And nobody really does that in prison
Put alongside general comments seen on here that prison life is perceived as 'too soft' I imagine it has something to do with people clamouring for offenders to receive a 'real' punishment and that it would be painful, humiliating, degrading etc. In this view they are seen as 'deserving it.'
It is not a topic I really know anything about but I had a quick look on the internet and couldn't easily find any site containing statistics on male prison rape in the UK. Of course it could be being under-reported for obvious reasons.
What does seem pretty clear is that in the USA they both lock up more of their population and male prison rape is officially recognised as a serious issue.

A low life bully that deserves 9 years inside. I hope his misses is allowed to regain her life. I hate wife abusers with a passion.
My best wishes to the women concerned. Have a life, not all bad and well done. You will be fine. x

Mr Bell's wife is a very good friend of mine and unfortunately what the papers wont report is her side and the horrific things this animal did to her, and also that they have a young baby who had to witness his vile acts, i wish Mr Bell gets more than 9 years he has been ruled a threat to society, this person is psychotic and manipulative and for the horrible things that he has done to my poor friend I hope he rots in jail till the day he dies! my friend will be fine she has support from her family and friends something this **** robbed her of for too long, i will pass on the positive comments to her i am sure she will appreciate the support
she will be able to trust a man again. not all men are monsters, i was lucky i found 1 of the good ones.
best wishes for the future.

A very sad storey, I thought there are a special police team to deal with this type of crime and lots of women who like to talk with a deep voice that hang around womens safe haven type places and a social housing department to help rehouse so what went wrong here , 9years is a long time for no one to help, and with a child , perhaps an enquiry but they will say lessons have been learnt etc etc

9 years is the length of the sentence, as the article says three times, not the period the abuse was taking place.

seems I misread the article but I only have a brief read , still the point is it went on long enough for the lady to have a child so it was not just a few weeks or even months so I still say why did it take so long, to often people are ignored then we read about it after hubby goes completly barking and tops the wife and kids , then as I said lessons to learnt , and so on
I have an open mind on this and will await the Echo on Monday.

and for u the victim it takes alot of courage to either leave the family home or report the abuse to the authorities. did u know u can go to a refuge even when u have suffered mental abuse. i found out many years after i had sorted my life out.

The story tells of horrific abuse over a long period, even prior to their marriage.
This thug has been given a public protection order stating that he is not to be released until it can be proved he is no longer a danger and a restraining order to stop him from ever seeing his wafe or child again.
I just hope his poor wife is able to rebuild her life and find happiness elsewhere, although I doubt she will ever completely recover from the mental scars.
