8:57pm Tuesday 7th February 2012 in Basildon By Ryan McCarthy
FIREFIGHTERS gave first aid to a woman after a small fire in her kitchen.
The fire was already out by the time crews arrived at the address in Silverlocke Road, Grays.
The incident happened at about 6pm today, February 7.
Chris Noakes, assistant divisional officer, warned householders to take care when cooking.
He said: “Our firefighters attend hundreds of fires a year which originate in the kitchen.
“Cooking is one of the major causes of fires in the home and even the smallest kitchen fire can cause devastation to your home and leave loved ones injured or even killed.”
He said a smoke alarm can be a life saving device and should be installed and regularly tested.
The woman, who suffered the affects of smoke inhalation, was left in the care of paramedics.
