Rogue Basildon landlords to be named and shamed

DODGY landlords who rent out sub-standard homes in Basildon are to be named and shamed.

Basildon Council has joined a campaign run by housing charity Shelter which aims to out people renting homes which fail to meet legal or safety requirements.

Local authorities can add names of lanlords they have prosecuted to an internet database.

People can then click on a map of the area they live in and read about rogues renting out homes which they can then avoid.

Visit www.shelter.org.uk/evictroguelandlords for more information.

Not only should all local authorities do this, with regards to landlords, but they are many other instances where it should also be done. Neighbours from hell is a good one as is businesses who have been taken to court by trading standards for ripping people off. Naming and shaming anything or anyone, which would give us some idea who we are dealing with regarding where we live or spend our money, would be good.
Who knows, it really could be a half decent deterrent.

How about a list of tenants that don't pay their rent.

Totally agree. How these criminals have not been dealt with years ago remains a mystery to me. Surely it can't be that they are exempt because they are in business? Many of them are dwellers in caravans who we can't mention because they do not have a group name, but they are definitely akin to mobile representatives!

You are right. Let's hope they practise what they preach.

The list of tenants who don't pay their rent does sort of exist. Its called the credit history database, I've been credit checked before moving into every rental property. If landlords accept tenants with bad credit ratings more fool them!

Rent increases, will this mean better service in regards to repairs or will these be cut back to balance the budget now there is a Council tax freeze?
