500 Essex businesses sign up for Olympics contracts

NEARLY 5,000 businesses across Essex have signed up for a chance at Olympic contracts.

The businesses have signed up to competefor.com which lets businesses compete for contracts linked to the London 2012 games.

Stephen Castle, county councillor responsible for the 2012 Games, said: “It isn’t too late to sign up and win London 2012 business so I would urge businesses in the county to sign up and find out how they can make the most of the Games coming to the UK and Essex.”

There are more than £200m of London 2012 contracts available.

and exactly how many Essex businesses have actually won any work or are likey to win any work out of this process? I attended a meeting at the very start of all this and listened to all the empty political rhetoric. How about a bit of investigative journalism to establish just how many Essex firms have benefitted.

I applied for the opportunity to quote for work, a few years back, when it was all kicking off, as I found myself being used as a sub-contractor to a Spanish firm who were doing work for the Olympics. My firm wasn't accepted so I gave up. The problem was over what they called equal opportunities. I truthfully told them that I wasn't prepared to employ one armed welders or anybody that I considered a potential danger to other workers. They didn't agree with me. I guess it is who you know rather than what you know.

It's a principal with me Jut. I hate PC. A piece of paper with a written statement about being PC is totally unnacceptable to me. I apply common sense. These idiots who force this PC rubbish on us have actually undermined our way of life and I will oppose them at every opportunity. I didn't need the Olympics work, as engineering is a great earner and very rewarding - contrary to what our schools tell our children. Sadly, this anti-engineering propaganda has resulted in the loss of our manufacturing base and huge increases in joblessness.
