A PRIVATE company will be brought in to fine people who litter the streets after councillors agreed to sign up to a one-year trial.
Security firm Xfor will employ a team of enforcement officers to hand out £75 fines to people who drop litter, leave dog mess behind and discard cigarettes across Basildon.
Basildon Council’s cabinet voted to bring in the company, led by ex-soldiers and cops, to patrol the streets alongside the authority’s environment officers.
Malcolm Buckley, councillor responsible for environment, told the meeting Xfor’s work would free up council officers to concentrate on other issues, like educating residents about recycling.
Following last Thursday’s decision, Xfor will now meet council officers to decide where to patrol, what times to patrol and how many staff are needed before they recruit.

Brilliant news, I for one will be glad to see less litter and the curse of dog shyt everywhere because of numb brains who now have 4 dogs which they allow to run freely in our public spaces causing all sorts of problems.
