THE headteacher of the Basildon Academies has asked parents to help him work towards a better future for their children.
Rory Fox told parents at a public meeting he was confronted with large numbers of badly-behaved children after taking the job in September 2011.
He said the academies had shocking numbers of pupils who couldn’t read.
Mr Fox, who was formerly the head of learning at Edmunds Hill Prison in Suffolk, told parents: “As I stand here, the academies already have achieved their highest GCSE results.
“Last year we had 33 per cent of children get five A to C grades at GCSE – we have not had that before.
“If we deliver at our current rate, in two years we will see our current Year 9 achieve 60 per cent A to C grades. The reason we are achieving results like that is because our parents are supporting us as we resolve these issues.
“To get them to achieve, we can’t waste time and go slowly.”
