A GIRL is missing out on her Olympic dream after she netted herself some tickets – but for an event 157 miles away.

Skye Conran, 10, of The Fold, Basildon , won three tickets for the women’s football event, after coming first in a writing competition at her school.

But the youngster was dismayed to find instead of being at a stadium within the south east, the tickets were for the a match at the Millennium Stadium in Cardiff.

Because of the distance and the expense of getting to Cardiff, Syke was unable to attend the Great Britain v New Zealand game which kicks off at 4pm today.

Her mum Emma Conran, 31, said: “Skye is devastated. It’s her dream to go to the Olympics. She loves sport so much. I asked the organisers if we could swap the tickets for anything else so at least Skye wouldn’t miss out.

“We just couldn’t get her to Wales. The train tickets would have cost me £300 and I don’t have that money.”

A spokesman for Locog said it was the responsibility of the school which gave the tickets to Skye as a prize to swap them and to have ensured they were for an event closer to home.

Nobody was available for comment at Skye’s school, Ghyllgrove Juniors in Basildon.
