A CAPED crusader and her trustee sidekick turned a few heads when they took to the streets of Wickford.
Geraldine Shirmer, 50, donned the Batman costume, and Caroline Wheeler, 48, dressed up as Robin, before setting off with collection buckets on a tour of the town to raise cash for the Children’s Heart Federation, a national charity for youngsters with heart disease.
The hardy duo helped to raise about £150 by walking up Mount Road, along Southend Road and the High Street, before returning to their day jobs at the Playpen pre-school, in Swan Lane.
The playgroup celebrates its 40th anniversary this year.
Helper Martin Wheeler, 50, said: “They hired the costumes and thought it would be a fun way to help a cause which has supported a family at our playgroup.
“They certainly turned a few heads, and got a few funny comments, but it was all good natured.”
