YOBS torched a mattress and caused damaged to a playground.
The old mattress had been dumped in Steeple View Park, in Queens Road, Billericay, when the vandals set fire to it.
It caught light to nearby play equipment, causing £300 damage.
Police are now appealing for witnesses to the Arson.
Laura Anderson, spokeswoman for Basildon police, said: “This was a very dangerous and mindless act.
“Arson can endanger lives and is not taken lightly.
“It has ruined something which is there for the whole community to enjoy.
“If anyone saw anything or know who did this, do the right thing and tell us.”
Witnesses to the arson, which happened between 5pm and 5.30pm, on Thursday, January 21, can contact Billericay police on 0300 3334444, or Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555111.

Maybe the time has come that in the very unlikely event that they are caught the parents should be billed for the repairs.
