Signal problems in Billericay disrupt National Express trains

SIGNALLING problems in the Billericay area are causing delays of up to ten minutes on train services between Southend Victoria and London Liverpool Street.

The problems on the National Express-operated line began just before 8.15am and engineers are working to resolve the issue.

So glad I don't commute to London anymore. Over priced and an unpleasant experience in peak hours. You can keep public transport in the UK it sucks!

I used to love commuting! Still do, would love to be working in London again
...
And my daily commute was 2hr30min door to door! Two mainline trains, DLR and the Tube - and I'd most certainly do it again.

How does 45 mins each way in air conditioned comfort grab you PJR. Ipod/Radio etc and 64.9p a litre fuel - LPG. Round trip costs me 6.50 a day compared with triple that for commuting to London (I did 20years of that).

Every day I drive away from London in the morning and back towards in the evening. See the chaos on the other side of the A12 every day, but very little my side. Sweeeeeeet.

When the A12 is fubar I use the Maldon/Tiptree/S. Woodham route easy as proverbial. Goodbye hateful commuting.

I work in Colchester!

roughly an hour's drive, same boring roads, not a chance to relax with a paper or a game on the iPod. Admit I don't have LPG, so at 25mpg it's actually more expensive than commuting ever was!
...
Plus the journey is down to me. If there's traffic, I take the same roads you mention, but get in late. At least with the train I had a decent excuse should I arrive late. Plus I could work on the train too...

This is the second time I've done the drive this way (I used to work in Tiptree before London) and I can honestly say I prefer the commute by train. I do get some wierd looks thought!

Ipods connected to the radio/sat nav. Cruise control set at 65 and it's bliss! Just let the loons whizz by.

Leave at 7:30am and return at 5:30 I rarely used to get a seat on the way into the city and on the way home usually I had to choose a later train to ensure a seat. Result a longer day. though I too miss not being able to read and or nap but thats a small price to pay.

On LPG I get 31.6 mpg which is a 'petrol equivalent of 57.9' so to travel cheaper you'd have to get a petrol car doing 58 or better. I used to get pretty much those figures with my old 02 1.8 Xsara Picasso now I've downsized to a 1.6 car. If you do the mileage and are hanging onto the car it's worth paying for the conversion (between 800 and 1400). Or buy ready converted.

I must admit it is something I've looked into, trouble is I never know if i'm keeping the car or not! Cruise control would be bliss too, I recently tested a car with it on the drive to work, and it was perfect.

I think the difference with my commute was that either I caught a train from Southend - early on the line (and early in the morning, I had to be in Teddington for 9.30am), or I got a train from Laindon, which was a starter station. Therefore I almost always had a seat. The only standing I did was on the DLR, even used to get a seat on the W&C line!
...
I think I will give LPG another look though
