Poll: Olympic travel - have your say (From Echo)

Funny thing, Echo, but many millions of people don't work at a computer in an office, and have no choice but to travel to work.

I have no choice but to travel into work due to the sensitivity of what I do, I am unable to access the systems remotely for security reasons. However, I am totally against these Olympics - if it's going to cause that much havoc, surely it proves that we aren't capable of having the Olympics held here! I'm already sick and tired of it all and it's not even started!!!!!

It really is a silly poll as the only ones who can answer are the tiny, tiny minority who can choose whether or not they can work from home. Those who can make this choice would normally work from home anyway and only show their face at work as and when they need to. I know of very few companies who would change the working policies for their emplyees just to fit around three weeks of the Olympics.

Needs more options than yes/no!
I will try and get in, and if it's a nightmare, then I'll work from home a few days a week.

I can't work from home but as I live in Basildon and work in Basildon I don't see it having any effect on me.

I'm sure Ernst Blofeld will be using the Olympics as a cover for one of his fiendish schemes

There won't be travel chaos any more than any other day. Loads of people will be on leave for summer holidays, more will take leave as they will be taken in by the scaremongering of travel chaos, no school runs, the roads will be clearer than normal.

I think you'll find that the majority of companies in London are either (i) allowing additional working from home or (ii) allowing flexible working, i.e work 7am to 3pm or 12 noon to 8pm.

bit of a stupid poll is it not? Surely there arent that many people who have that opportunity to choose to work from home otherwise they would do that in the first place.

What about people who work in shops, builders, police, firefighters etc.

This really is a stupid poll. Most people can't work from home, so what's the point in asking? What's the point in trying to find out?

Now if the question was - Do you have the option to work from home? That's a different matter.

I work from home most days, that's what it means being a freelance. But ironically, I will be working in London a fair bit during the Olympics for a contract, so no, I won't be, but I usually do.

You can rely on the Echo to encourage a load of negative moaning.

Work from home? Quite difficult to do if you are a taxi driver, bus driver, nurse, paramedic, bus driver, shop worker, delivery driver, factory worker, gardener, plumber, carpenter, window cleaner, firefighter, policeman, traffic warden......need i go on? We will be leaving our houses regardless as most of us must travel for work!

I bet the MP for Rochford & Southend East won't be travelling to London during this time. Oh, sorry, I forgot, he never commutes anyway, hence the reason he sold his (recently renovated at taxpayers expense) one bedroom flat & bought one large enough for his family, as he claims it's too far to travel to & from Westminster to Southend on a daily basis!
I'm a contractor, I have to travel into London over this time, although the company I am currently working for is encouraging their employees to work from home if possible, even though Canary Wharf is not an Olympic venue.

I will have nothing to do with it. I will turn off the TV until it is over, and shut myself in at home.

WHY would I want to work from home, when I AM retired? Some people will make ANY excuse not to go into work, and I WAS one of them many years ago.

Parliament is shut for the summer holidays so all the MPs will be off like all the other kids!

I like the fact that Londoners are already referring to the Olympic lanes as ZiL Lanes.

That's the complete opposite to me then because both my own company and my girlfriends company have done just that as have many of my friends.

In fact, the only people I know who have not had alternative location or working from home arrangements made specifically for the Olympics are those in jobs where they have to physically be in a specific location.
