Man in hospital after gas leak on Canvey
A MAN in his 20s was taken to hospital following a gas leak on Canvey.
Emergency services were called to Central Wall Road at about 3pm today, Monday.
A gas main in the road was ruptured when it was struck by a yellow Peugeot 306 cabriolet.
Gary Sanderson, spokesman for the East of England Ambulance Service, said: "One male patient in his 20s, who was the driver of the vehicle, was taken to hospital.
"His condition was not believed to be life-threatening."
An Essex County Fire and Rescue Service spokesman said a 100 metre hazard zone was set up around the damaged gas main while a Canvey fire crew dealt with the incident.
The gas board was also called to the scene.
Central Wall Road is currently closed between Doverfelt Road and the High Street.

the bk end went after skidding on some oil/petrol that was in the road, he started to head towards a oncoming car.
He swerved out the way to avoid hitting it, and relised he was heading towards the bus stop where their were school kids standing around, so he tried to stear the car to avoid them and in to a safer place. Hitting the curb and flipping the car he went Throw a garden hitting the gas main. Thankfully his quick thinking saved a few life's x

My sister wasnt allowed into her home until 5.30. Phoned the National Grid to find out if the road was open and gas leak secured and they told us they had no record of this gas escape and couldnt tell me anything?? Had to call Canvey Police Station to ask if the road was now open.

Can I clarify some comments. My son hit the hedge at 30milesa per hour the momentum of the car and the tree caused the car to roll into the garden taking the hidden gas main. Thank god he swerved or there may have been fatalitys.
